Return of Litha, W? W? W? W? W? H?
Return of Litha, Who!? (the true bio-logicals formerly known as 2nd Wind!)
André Martinez-Reed, a powerhouse drummer from Brooklyn, had played in everything from free jazz collectives to stoner rock bands. He brought a unique blend of chaos and clockwork—funk, fire, and a fierce understanding of dynamics.
Dean Curtis Keith is the voice. Raised in a family of singers and music lovers, music was always in his blood. His early exposure to pop, rock, jazz, classical, and musical theater shaped him into a versatile vocalist. Over the years, he's performed in every one of these genres and considers himself lucky to have been exposed to such a wide array of music.
Dan Gaydos and Ardan Gajdosovci (2 parts of the same person) was born as Daniel Bryan Gaydos but artistically weighed in more and more with Ardan Gajdosovci. Ardan seemed a more explicit form of Daniel, and Gajdosovci is our family's authentic, pre-Ellis Island Slovakian name. Ever since elementary school, I was in love with sound: discovering, creating and harboring sound for art, because any sound always felt like art. I simultaneously grew into songwriting and poetry;- or more clearly took over every process of my life. Music and poetry are how I fundamentally see the universe, this world, family and neighborhood; through those lenses. The names of the band as we evolved went from 0 one 0 then the possibility of calling ourselves New Tribe, to what we settled on: 2nd Wind. 2nd wind is appropriate for a band who went full tilt in the later 90’s, early oughts, til now as we newly give 2nd Wind and ourselves new life!
Return of Litha, What!?
We sought out each other and amazingly found each other for a lifetime of music discovery, expansion of our own love of making music and thus the makings of song-gifts for everyone. We are together to inspire, and therefore in return we are inspired and healed by the same shared music.
Return of Litha, Where!?
- Andres is from New York.
- Dean is from Erie, PA,.
- Dan is from Pittsburgh, PA.
We coalesced on 295 Douglass Street, Gowanus, Brooklyn, in a loft dedicated to music production and the history of sound recording and we were originally known as 2nd Wind. We did most of our best recording in a cabinet shop/recording studio on 332 Dean Street in the same area of Gowanus in Brooklyn.
Return of Litha, When!?
Well, Dan put an ad in the Village Voice in 1995, saying he was forming a band especially to make use of the hundreds of songs he and his songwriting partner Jon Robinson, wrote demoed together in Pittsburgh and Brooklyn, from 1968 till about 2008. Dean, Dan and Andres forged many of these songs starting in 1994 and have since written many songs together as a group.
Return of Litha, Why!?
Neither of us can live without creating and the best creations are shared.
Return of Litha, How!?
Parallel Universe.
